Diamond Football Matchbooks: Obscure, Unique and Undervalued???

In the 1930’s, the Great Depression was taking its toll on American businesses. Diamond Match Company was no exception. Their bread and butter had been revenues made from  advertising. The Depression had let to a large drop in advertising, and Diamond was forced to reinvent itself.

As a test, they released a set of Hollywood stars that had a picture and a short biography. This was big hit with the smoking public, and led the Diamond Match Co. into releasing sets of matchbooks with baseball, hockey and football figures. The football themed matchbooks came in two distinct varieties over the years.
